

Officers administered first aid to the victim on scene and SAFD medics transported him to Shannon Medical Center for treatment. Officers arrived on scene, located a 54 year old male who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper and lower torso, and were able to detain John Walton (47yoa) who was believed to be the suspect.

While responding to that location, our dispatch division received information that the there was a potential shooting victim at that residence. On 9/13/22 around 7:25pm, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 200blk of Oxford in reference to a domestic disturbance. Those officers do an outstanding job every day, keeping our community safe. It is also essential to express that the conduct of one officer should never reflect on the hard-working, professional, and dedicated men and women of the San Angelo Police Department. It is very important to me for the citizens of this community to know that this type of conduct will not be taken lightly and will not be tolerated. The criminal investigation will be sent to the Tom Green County Attorney’s Office.

While the investigation into his conduct was ongoing, if Professional Standards had sustained the allegations, I intended to terminate Officer Zapata’s employment with the San Angelo Police Department. The San Angelo Police Department is a Civil Service Department and has a set protocol for conducting internal investigations in accordance with State Civil Service Law. On Friday October 7, 2022, former Officer Jayson Zapata resigned from the San Angelo Police Department. An SAPD Sergeant suffered minor injuries associated with the crash and was treated (and later released) at Concho Valley ER.

Robles and her passenger were not injured during the course of this pursuit/investigation. A 35 year old passenger of Robles’ vehicle was initially detained but was released at the conclusion of the initial investigation. The suspect was identified as Crystal Robles (36 yoa) and she was taken into custody for Reckless Driving, Driving While Intoxicated, and Evading Arrest/Detention with a Motor Vehicle. The collision caused extensive damage to both of the vehicles and Officers were then able to quickly take the suspect into custody. The suspect vehicle was then able to turn around in the parking lot of the complex and then collided with a pursuing patrol unit. The suspect initially stopped for the Officer but then fled the stop in their vehicle at a high rate of speed.Ī vehicle pursuit was initiated and officers observed the vehicle enter into a parking lot of an apartment complex in the 2600blk of Southland BLVD. The Officer was able to catch up to the suspect vehicle and initiated a Traffic stop on it in the 4900blk of Houston Harte Frontage. On 10/17/22 shortly after Midnight, An SAPD Patrol Officer observed a white in color Ford Escape driving recklessly on Sherwood Way.
